In the fall of 2018, I began writing for the Daily Pilot, a newspaper published by the Los Angeles Times that covers the Orange County communities of Sunset Beach, Huntington Beach, Fountain Valley, Newport Beach, Costa Mesa and Laguna Beach. My feature stories have a particular focus on the arts and theatre.
Orange County Museum of Art opens temporary Santa Ana location
The Orange County Museum of Art (OCMA) is opening a temporary space in Santa Ana’s South Coast Plaza Village until construction is finished on its new, permanent location at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa. The museum focuses on modern and contemporary art. Its interim space is featuring five seasons of exhibitions, focusing on life around the Pacific.
Chekhov-inspired family comedy to debut at South Coast Repertory
Christopher Durang’s family comedy “Vanya and Sonya and Masha and Spike,” an homage to Russian playwright Anton Chekhov, debuted at Costa Mesa’s South Coast Repertory. “It’s been a blast,” Director Bart DeLorenzo said. “Imagine showing up for work and laughing for six hours straight.”
South Coast Repertory names David Ivers artistic director
The Costa Mesa-based repertory named the theatre veteran as its co-chief executive officer. David Ivers, who is currently the artistic director of Arizona Theatre Company, said his first priority is becoming attuned to his new home and making sure the performances mirror the community they serve.
Orange County Women’s Chorus names first paid executive director
Eight years ago, Allison Hieger joined the Orange County Women’s Chorus to sing at a high level and meet more people. Now, the board has named her as its first paid executive director. “Often women’s choruses are treated as an afterthought. We want to continue to elevate what a women’s chorus is and break that stigma,” she said.
